Code of Conduct

Game Dev London is a collective of developers, artists, designers, and all-round gaming enthusiasts working together to give back to the UK game industry!

We want to bring knowledge to the games industry wherever it can be found, so whether that's via our interviews with game dev veterans, via our podcasts exploring all facets of game design, or via our Game Dev Lunch meet up events where everyone gets to know each other face-to-face, we are helping to bring the UK games industry together. We also provide a ton of community-driven resources available to help you get started!

This is an inclusive space mainly for sharing information and any other cool game dev related things that you may be doing! Even if you're not from or even located in London, you're more than welcome to join our group, make friends, attend events, and share everything you are passionate about in game dev!

Rules & Code of Conduct

Game Dev London’s goal is to create inclusive, accessible, harassment and judgement-free safe spaces; in our online spaces and offline events, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), social-economic status, or technological choices.

All organisers, volunteers, exhibitors and speakers are also subject to this code of conduct.

By attending our Game Dev London events and/or associated events (such as our Dinner Dev events), interacting with members of the group online and/or offline, you are expected to adhere to our community standards and code of conduct.

Expected Behaviour

Be kind, considerate and respectful.

Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behaviour and speech.

Contribute to fostering an inclusive and accessible safe space for all attendees, organisers, speakers and associates.

Pronouns

We aim to create an inclusive environment for our LGBTQIA+ attendees to freely express their gender identity. No matter your identity, writing your gender pronouns is completely optional, though encouraged. Please respect an individual and use their pronouns when written on their label/name tag.

Inclusive Language

We encourage the use of inclusive and gender-neutral language, and we discourage the use of ableist language. Inclusivity is a core principle of Game Dev London. Being mindful of member’s pronouns and your use of language helps build that.

Gender Inclusive/Neutral Language

Using gender-inclusive language helps foster an inclusive community and space of Game Dev London. Instead of using “guys”, or “gals”, using terms like “everyone”, “friends”, or “folks” instead is encouraged.

Ableist Language

Ableist language is any word or phrase that intentionally or inadvertently target an individual with a disability. Use of ableist language/terms such as “crazy”, “insane”, “lame”, “dumb”, can be extremely insulting and hurtful to individuals who find themselves with physical (“lame”, “invalid”, “dumb”) or mental (“crazy”, “retarded”, “psycho”) disabilities and is therefore discouraged. Alternative terms include: “wild”, “unpredictable”, “ridiculous”.

Swearing

Unacceptable Behaviour

Harassment, abusive behaviour, or assault of any form will not be tolerated. This includes but not limited to:

Spamming in our online spaces and proactively misusing them
Unwelcome sexual attention and/or inappropriate physical contact
Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following
Verbal abuse, including abusive comments pertaining to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age and religion.
Harassing photography or recording
Physical assault
Sustained disruption of talks or other events
Violent or sexual images/displays and language in public spaces.
Direct attacks on a single person (including memes and/or politics) whether they are or not in the GDL community.
Undermining or downplaying someone else’s lived experience. This is not to say that you cannot discuss difficult/sensitive topics, but please be aware that in doing so it can be very upsetting and traumatising so please be extra sensitive in doing so.
Directly or indirectly interacting with / contacting authorities on behalf of someone without their explicit consent.
Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behaviour.

We are here to support all of you in your game development journey, and we will not tolerate anyone impeding that, intentionally or accidentally.

Enforcement

If someone is exhibiting unacceptable behaviour, the Admin Team will issue a 3 Strikes Rule.

At the 1st time of unacceptable behaviour occurring, the Admin Team will send a DM. Offensive / unacceptable messages will be deleted. The offence and warning will be tracked.

At the 2nd time, a member of the Admin team will publicly call out the behaviour.

At the 3rd time, the Admin Team will ban the offender and/or may take additional and appropriate actions.
